When Jesus saw the widow offering the two copper coins he called his disciples and said that she has offered more than what all the others had offered. He said that the others offered from their abundance and she, from her nothingness, offered all what she had to live on. I was just thanking God that he did not say “You also go and do likewise”. How could someone offer all that he or she has to the temple and go with nothing to buy bread for the day. Certainly the Lord wont expect us to do that. At the same time this incident shows that we need to have a mind to offer to the lord whatever we have and not when we have more than what we need.
What surprised me more was the attitude of the widow. What might have prompted her to make an offering of this sort? I am sure that this was not a common thing that she would do. if not she would have nothing to eat for herself. It might be that she was excited about God and his personal love in her life due to some special blessing that she received one of those days.
It might have been that excitement that prompted her to give all that she had. In the same way if we are not excited about God it is not possible for us to offer out whole self to Him. To be excited about God we need to be aware about his special role in our lives. We need to recall each one those and thank him daily. In doing so, as the days pass by, our excitement for Him will grow. And giving all what we have to him will be very easy.
