POWER in Meditation

There are many ways of meditation. Though every method has something good to offer, it is a must for every Christian to be able to take his Bible and meditate on the Word of God. One who is able to reflect on the Word of God and draw lessons for life from the scripture is not easily shattered when troubles come on the way. However, there are very few Christians who are able to meditate on the word of God. Even those who have a habit of reading the Bible daily may not know how to use the Word of God for fruitful meditation.

POWER is a method of meditation that enables one to enter into the presence of God and to strike a conversation with Jesus. It leads one to focus on the positive qualities noticed in various characters in the Bible in the form of a conversation with Jesus. Here one neither compares nor accuses oneself with anyone. He slowly and gently elucidates the virtues and positive elements noticed in someone and earnestly expresses his desire to imitate those in his dialogue with Jesus. Often, he notices the good qualities seen in Jesus or the intricate meaning of his Word and reflects on them with Jesus in the form of questions and answers.

An example of POWER Meditation is given below.

P – Presence

Dear loving Jesus I thank you and praise you for this wonderful day. Thank you, my Lord and master, for your constant love and care. Papa Father I love you with my whole heart I want to be with you during this meditation. Let me lose myself in your embrace. Holy Spirit, my sweet loving friend breath into me let me be filled with your presence.

O – Offer

Lord Jesus, I want to listen to you. Speak to me loving Jesus. I surrender before you my heart and mind, my thoughts and imaginations, my entire being. Take control of me dear loving Lord.

W – Word

John replied in the words of the prophet Isaiah: “I am a voice crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord!”

E – Engage

Dear loving Jesus, thank you for speaking to me about John the Baptist. Lord, you had such an admiration for him. You even said that there is no man born of women greater than John. My teacher and Master, I wish to know what was so special about John that made you say such words about him.

Dear Lord, I see when people came to ask John about his identity, he said that he was the voice of the one crying, prepare the way of the Lord. Dear Lord, he considered himself to be a voice. Tell me, Jesus, what is a voice I want to know what was so unique about him.

Lord, I see voice is something that carries the word. When someone speaks his voice carries the word to the listener. Dear Jesus, my spouse, You are the Word and one who carries you in his heart will be a voice. I understand now dear Lord, why John called himself a voice. He did so because all he wanted was to carry you to the people.

Lord I see, voice is one with the Word.  When someone speaks we cannot distinguish between his voice and the word that we hear. Lord, I realize that to be a voice one needs to be totally united to the Word of God or be one with you. My loving Jesus I am reminded of your words, “Remain in me and I will remain in you”. Lord, I realize that John was a person who was so united with you that he did not have an identity apart from being your voice.

If not voice one will be a  noice. Lord my beloved, when someone speaks if the words that he speaks are not distinctively clear, whatever he speaks will be no more than mere noice because I will be hearing him without really grasping what he communicates. Similarly, while speaking if he also produces lots of other noises the listeners will find it hard to grasp what he tries to communicate. Lord, I see that John was one who was not interested in any pleasures of the world. He lived on locusts and wild honey and wore clothing made of camel hair. He knew well that the sole purpose of his existence was to proclaim the coming of the Word and to get the people ready for welcoming Him. So he gave up all the joys and pleasures that did not positively contribute to his mission. He was indeed a voice dear Lord, he was your voice.

R – Response

Dear Jesus, I too want to be a voice, I too want to be your voice. I see that John the Baptist was unique because he was able to be your voice. Lord, I realize if I wish to prepare people to welcome you in their hearts I too need to be your voice.

Voice is something that carries the word: Loving Lord, I want to carry your word within me like the Baptist. Lord I too want to carry you in my heart always. I realize if I don’t have you and your word living in me I have nothing at all. Lord, I will read your word learn by heart more verses, repeat them often within my mind. Lord, I want to carry your word always in my mind. Let my mind be always occupied with your word.

Voice is one with the Word: Lord, I understand my only identity is in being one with you. Lord, I understand that I cannot be a voice like John if I do not make a conscious effort in being one with you, in my words and deeds, thoughts and imaginations. Dear Lord, I want to be in you and have you always in me. My beloved Lord, from today, let me constantly remind myself of your constant presence in my life. Through silent mental conversation with you, let me always remain in your presence. Lord to remain in you I need to remain in the word. To remain in the Word would mean, never going out of the Word. My loving Lord, from today, let me keep watch on my thoughts and words so as never to go against your commandments even in a minute way. Lord, I will examine myself daily evening to see if I have gone against your word will make up my mind to do better on the following day. Love you my Lord.

If not voice one will be a  noice: My most loving Jesus, I realize that if I don’t be a voice and communicate your Word and your values I will turn out to be a noice. Lord, I see that if I don’t communicate an experience of you to all who come into contact with me, I will be mere noice – without being able to communicate anything your love to others. Lord, I want to be a voice. I want to give an experience of you to all who come into my life.

Resolution: Dear Lord today after lunch, I will spend sometime to…….(name of the person) and ask sorry for hurting him with my words two days back.
