June 1, 2025 – Ascension of the Lord (Year C)

Gospel: Luke 24:46–53
Context: Jesus appears to his disciples, explaining his death and resurrection fulfill Scripture, commissioning them to preach, and ascends to heaven as they worship.
Word: “You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:48)

  • Engage 1: Jesus clearly entrusted others with his message.
  • Incidents: Sending disciples to preach (Luke 24:47–48); commissioning apostles (Matthew 28:19–20).
  • Engage 2: Jesus joyfully blessed his followers.
  • Incidents: Blessing disciples at ascension (Luke 24:50–51); praising faith of the centurion (Matthew 8:10).

June 2, 2025 – Monday, Seventh Week of Easter

Gospel: John 16:29–33
Context: At the Last Supper, the disciples claim understanding. Jesus warns they will scatter but assures them he has overcome the world, offering peace.
Word: “In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33)

  • Engage 1: Jesus calmly prepared others for challenges.
  • Incidents: Warning of persecution (John 16:1–4); comforting before passion (John 14:1).
  • Engage 2: Jesus quietly encouraged steadfast hearts.
  • Incidents: Strengthening Peter’s faith (Luke 22:31–32); appearing post-resurrection (John 20:19–20).

June 3, 2025 – Tuesday, Seventh Week of Easter (St. Charles Lwanga and Companions, Memorial)

Gospel: John 17:1–11a
Context: Jesus prays to the Father, glorifying him by completing his mission and seeking protection for his disciples in a challenging world.
Word: “I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work you gave me.” (John 17:4)

  • Engage 1: Jesus diligently finished his work.
  • Incidents: Preaching in Galilee (Mark 1:38–39); completing his mission (John 19:30).
  • Engage 2: Jesus carefully watched over his friends.

Gospel: John 17:11b–19
Context: Jesus prays for his disciples’ protection from evil and consecration in truth as they carry out their mission in the world.

Gospel: John 17:20–26

Gospel: John 21:20–25
Context: Jesus addresses Peter’s concern about another disciple’s path, urging him to focus on his own calling to follow.

Gospel: John 20:19–23
Context: Jesus appears to the disciples post-resurrection, offering peace and breathing the Holy Spirit on them to forgive sins and continue his mission.
Word: “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.” (John 20:22–23)

  • Engage 1: Jesus peacefully strengthened others’ faith.
  • Incidents: Breathing Spirit on disciples (John 20:22); promising the Spirit (John 16:7).
  • Engage 2: Jesus generously shared forgiveness.

June 9, 2025 – Memorial of Mary, Mother of the Church

Gospel: John 19:25–34
Context: At the cross, Jesus entrusts Mary to the beloved disciple and the disciple to Mary, establishing her as mother of the Church, before his death.
Word: “Woman, behold, your son. … Behold, your mother.” (John 19:26–27)

  • Engage 1: Jesus caringly built a spiritual family.
  • Incidents: Entrusting Mary and John (John 19:26–27); calling disciples family (Mark 3:35).
  • Engage 2: Jesus thoughtfully ensured others’ care.

June 10, 2025 – Tuesday, Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Matthew 5:13–16
Context: In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls disciples salt and light, urging good deeds to glorify God.
Word: “Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” (Matthew 5:16)

  • Engage 1: Jesus urged daily acts of goodness.
