Have you ever finished a long, busy day feeling like your mind was carrying a heavy backpack full of worries, hurts, and endless to-do lists? Many of us try to shake off this stress by distracting ourselves with phones or television, but the heaviness remains when we wake up the next morning.
TAPPING is a beautiful, deeply personal evening prayer routine designed to help you unpack that backpack. It is not just a mechanical set of rules or another method of prayer; it is a living, daily “cleansing system” for your soul that helps you sit face-to-face with Jesus, talking to Him as your closest, most trusted friend. It is a practical way to stop living out of your own limited strength and start living out of the infinite love and grace that God is eager to pour into your life.
The heart of TAPPING lies in a simple secret: transforming your regular thoughts into a warm, ongoing conversation with God. Instead of keeping your worries or even your happy moments to yourself, you invite Jesus into them. By doing this right before you sleep, you wash away the mud of the world before it has a chance to dry in your heart.
No matter who you are—whether you feel spiritually strong or completely weak, wounded, and struggling—TAPPING is for you. You do not need to be perfect to begin. In fact, it is specifically designed for those who fall and want to rise again quickly, providing a structured way to break free from the cycle of spiritual dryness and reconnect with God’s mercy.
The Meaning and Practice of the 7 Steps
To keep your mind focused and prevent it from wandering, each step of TAPPING uses beautiful, vivid mental imagery. By occupying your mind with these specific spiritual pictures, the prayer remains deeply engaging rather than dry or boring. Here is how the seven steps logically unfold to reshape your life.
1. Thanksgiving
This step is all about recognizing that God is a loving Father who actively takes care of you. We often live with a sense of lack, focusing only on our problems, which makes our spirits dry. Thanksgiving intentionally shifts your focus away from what is wrong and anchors it onto God’s constant faithfulness. As the Bible says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thes 5:18). This step is crucial because it acts as a mental reset button; when you actively count your blessings, you realize you are never abandoned, breaking the grip of anxiety before you go deeper into prayer.
When you begin, close your eyes and visualize your actual, individual experiences from the day. Do not just make a generic list; see each event clearly in your mind. Recall the tasty meal you ate, the moment you safely crossed a busy road, a beautiful sunset you caught a glimpse of, or a friend who smiled at you. Recall exactly how you felt in those specific moments and recognize how the Lord was present right there with you. You should continue this until you reach a beautiful stage where you feel there are simply too many blessings to even name.
2. Adoration
After thanking God, we move to Adoration, which shifts your gaze entirely from what God has done to who He is. This step is incredibly important because it takes you completely out of your own world and places you into God’s world. By praising His pure goodness, majesty, and beauty, your heart begins to realize how truly big He is compared to your daily struggles. As the psalmist says, “Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs” (Ps 100:2). It moves you past your own needs and allows you to simply love Him for His own sake, establishing a baseline of absolute awe and trust.
To do this, imagine Jesus sitting on a magnificent throne in heaven, surrounded by vast crowds of angels and saints adoring and worshipping Him. See yourself totally prostrated, kneeling low before the throne of God, and crying out from your heart: “Lord, I adore You and I worship You.” To deepen this connection, visualize your favorite, beloved saints standing on your left and right, and ask them to be at your side. Ask Mama Mary and your guardian angel to stand with you as well. In their holy company, see yourself completely caught up in the heavenly liturgy, surrounded by all of heaven in pure worship of the Lord.
3. Surrender
Surrender means handing over total control of your life, your day, and your wounds to Jesus. We often hold onto our anxieties, clutching them tightly like a shield, which only causes us inner friction and exhaustion. This step is necessary because you cannot receive God’s peace while your hands are full of your own heavy packages. In this step, you choose to “die to your self-will” and drop your heavy burdens at the feet of the Master, trusting that He can manage them far better than you can.
To practice this, systematically visualize your whole body, passing your attention from part to part. Think of your eyes and what they saw today, your ears and what they heard, and your hands and what they did throughout the hours. Place each part explicitly into the hands of Jesus, holding absolutely nothing back for yourself. If you are surrendering a specific emotional wound, a painful memory, or an anxiety, bring the exact incidents or people connected with that pain directly into your mind. Do not run away from the feeling; acknowledge it, feel the sting of the pain, and then deliberately hand it over to Jesus.
4. Pardon & Washing
This is the moment of deep healing and reconciliation. Here, you freely confess your sins and confidently ask God for forgiveness, knowing that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 Jn 1:9). Because this step follows Adoration, your sorrow does not come from a place of scary guilt or self-pity, but from a deep, beautiful sense of genuine repentance. You realize how much you are loved by God, and you simply want to protect your friendship with Him. Equally important, this is where you forgive everyone who has hurt you. The Lord teaches that healing is blocked if we harbor anger against another in our heart.
While doing this, stand vividly in front of the Cross, looking at the crucified body of Christ pierced with nails. After asking pardon for your own sins and giving complete pardon to everyone, spend a few moments meditating deeply on His holy wounds. Look at His head pierced by sharp thorns, His closed and bruised eyes, His torn shoulders, and His pierced wrists and feet where He hangs out of pure love for you. See Him looking down at you with compassion, saying: “You are not equal to your weaknesses, my child; you are equal to the price I paid for you.” Then, see His precious blood flowing as a living stream from those wounds, washing gently over your forehead, your thoughts, your memories, your body, and your anxieties, leaving you feeling light, relaxed, and totally new.
5. Praise & Listening
Praising is the absolute center and turning point of TAPPING. The three steps before it help you clear away the debris of your day so you can enter into heartfelt praise, and the steps that follow are the natural result of a life focused on praising God. Now that the precious blood of Jesus has washed you clean, your chains are broken and your identity as a beloved child of God is fully restored. As the Bible says, “I will praise the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips” (Ps 34:1).
However, praise is not a one-way street. After expressing your joy, you transition into a profound stillness to listen to the Lord. True intimacy requires dialogue, and this listening phase is where your soul is nurtured. Once your heart is wide open from praise, you quiet your mind and give Him the floor, allowing His still, small voice to speak comfort, truth, and direction directly to your heart.
To do this, return to the image of the beautiful Heavenly Throne, but now approach it with a lively, spontaneous, and deep joy. Visualize the saints and angels singing and praising God, and realize that you are not just a distant spectator—you are jumping right into their celebration because your heart is light. Praise the Lord with freedom and deep trust over your life, whether through simple words like “Thank you, Jesus” or through the gift of tongues.
Afterward, transition into a quiet intimacy: imagine yourself walking calmly up to Jesus and sitting peacefully at His feet, just like Mary in the Gospels. Lean your head against Him, hush every internal noise, and ask Him, “Lord, what do You want to tell me tonight?” Spend a few unhurried moments just resting in His presence, listening to the subtle movements of His Spirit in your heart.
6. Intercession
True friendship with God expands your heart, moving you to care for the needs of others. Once you have tasted His peace, you naturally desire to share it. In this step, you step away from your own concerns and lift up your family, friends, colleagues, and even those who have hurt you, asking God to bless, heal, and guide them. This step is vital because it protects us from spiritual selfishness and aligns our hearts with God’s compassionate and merciful nature. As James 5:16 reminds us, “The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.”
When we do this, visualize yourself sitting comfortably right beside Jesus in a peaceful, beautiful place you love—such as a quiet park, a beautiful seashore, or a calm riverside. Lean your head affectionately on His shoulder or place your hand on His knee, talking to Him like a best friend. Bring the people you want to pray for into this space one by one, and affectionately ask Him to bless them. In this step, you also pray for your own needs, asking for His strength and guidance. As you surrender everyone to His care, praise the Lord over their lives, trusting completely that His power is reaching out to make a tangible difference.
7. New Life & Good Action
TAPPING does not end when you open your eyes; it is a step of complete renewal designed to reshape your tomorrow, helping you become more like Jesus in your practical, everyday life. As Saint Paul says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Rom 12:2). This step is critical because love requires a visible sign. Here, you reflect on areas of failure and choose one specific “Good Action”—a small gift of love—to perform the next day. To be effective, this gift must follow the SMART framework: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Repeatable, and Time-bound.
To do this, stay in that same intimate, peaceful place with Jesus. Discuss your plans for tomorrow with Him as if talking to your best friend about the areas you just washed with His blood. Vividly visualize yourself acting differently in the face of tomorrow’s challenges. See yourself executing your plan well, reaching the office exactly on time, or wishing an irritating person a good morning with a genuine smile. This process of vivid imagination fires your mirror neurons and creates strong neural pathways, pre-wiring your brain so it is physically and spiritually easy to let your light shine before others tomorrow (Mt 5:16).
How to Begin Your Journey
TAPPING is more than a prayer routine; it is a daily habit that develops deep consistency in your spiritual life. If you are ready to experience this powerful transformation, here is how you can start tonight:
- Find a Quiet Place: Choose a spot where you can pray without distractions, like a corner of your room or a peaceful park. If your schedule is tight, you can even practice it while traveling or during any quiet pocket of your day.
- Set Aside Time: Decide how much time you want to spend. Even 15 to 20 minutes is enough to move intentionally through all seven steps.
- Follow the Structure: Use the sequence of Thanksgiving, Adoration, Pardon, Praise, Intercession, New Life, and Good Action to guide your heart.
- Be Consistent: Commit to practicing TAPPING every single day. The more consistent you are, the more natural this divine dialogue will feel, and the deeper your connection with God will become.
Start tonight, lay down the heavy backpack of your day, and allow the power of TAPPING to bring real, lasting holiness to your life.

Praise God!
My name is Amala Mariya. I just wanted to share how things have been going for me with meditation and spiritual fencing.
During our TAPPING retreat, some of you might have seen me confused and not really understanding what Fr. Jerry was talking about, especially regarding meditation and the four stages. Honestly, I was in a “kili poya” stage. Even during the break, I told Fr. Jerry, “Father, I think you made a mistake by selecting me for this retreat. This is not my level. This is not for me. You picked the wrong person this time.” I was genuinely struggling to understand what he was saying about meditation.
That doesn’t mean I now know everything. What I meant is, if we put in some effort, the Holy Spirit will take care of the rest. And that’s something I started experiencing after the retreat.
After the retreat, everyone started doing meditation. I had this desire to give it a try, even though I felt like I couldn’t do it. But I began reading again and again the examples of meditation that Fr. shared in the group. Then I prayed, picked a verse, and started meditating and it actually went really well. The way I read the Bible started to change. The more I meditated, the more insights I began to receive.
For the first few meditations, I was happy with the insights I was getting. We’ve read these verses so many times before, but never realized that each word carries such deep meaning. But now, I feel the responses are the most imp. part of meditation. Getting insights is great, but when we start applying those qualities to our lives, our way of thinking, our behavior, everything begins to change.
One thing I’ve noticed is that when I focus on the response, I started seeing areas where I was lacking, small, broken parts in my relationships with others that I never paid attention to before. These may not be sinful areas. And when I start identifying those areas and try to bring in the qualities of Jesus, it becomes something truly beautiful.
Another part is spiritual fencing and TAPPING. For me, washing with the precious blood is my favorite part of TAPPING. Since I started doing it, I’ve got a special love for the precious Blood of Jesus, just like the reverence and love we have for the Eucharist. All the burdens, all the guilt from sin , they begin to vanish when I do TAPPING. I don’t feel anything physically or emotionally, but the relief after washing everything with the precious Blood of Jesus is indescribable.
This doesn’t mean I’m doing everything perfectly or regularly. I fall. Sometimes I’m not able to do my fencing. Sometimes I feel weak and low. But even during those times, I have this desire, to go back to meditation and TAPPING.
The biggest change I’ve noticed after starting meditation and TAPPING is that I’ve become more conscious of my identity and relationship with God. Before the retreat, I was struggling myself to be in God awareness, but now, it happens naturally, the aware about God .
So, if any of you are struggling to get started, just give it a try. The rest, God will take care of.
